In a past life I was a freelance photographer.
These are some of my favorite projects.

In addition to my ongoing personal portrait projects, which can be visited at www.halephoto.com, I have shot for a large variety of different clients.

Find Me

Find Me!

Find Me is a children’s book project I illustrated for Chronicle Books. The goal with this book is to make young readers seek and find certain objects hidden on each page.

Given a series of different themes, I created 11 double-page photo spreads, using props and extensive set-building. The final images incorporated many hours of Photoshop retouching and working closely with the Creative Director.

Stuck Up

Stuck Up: 100 Objects Ingested and Inserted in Places They Shouldn’t Be.

Stuck Up is a book, published by St Martin’s Press, that I created all interior artwork for. The book includes over 100 original photo-composites of actual x-rays, combined with photos I shot, to give the illusion that they accompanied late-night emergency room visits.

The final images look like true x-rays and illustrate humorous written vignettes talking about where these objects came from and how they may have ended up where they did.

Hella Damn Squirrels

Hella Damn Squirrels is a social media project that matches my original photos of Oakland’s wild squirrels with witty and unique captions.

Started in 2012, it has grown from an original Facebook Page into having both Instagram and Twitter accounts, as well as a Tumblr blog having its own url. From there I have taken it to actual shows in local galleries, libraries, festivals and cafes. To this day the squirrels continue to thrive online with their continuous nutty feed.
